Whew, after 6 months I am finally putting down the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. Granted, I only finished 6 out of 7 of the books, but I definitely needed to take a break. And I fully intend to finish the last one at some point (the fiance wants me to wait at least a year. He can’t handle this series anymore, apparently it was “painful”). For the record, I loved the books. But six of those things in a row was a pretty ambitious task (that I realized halfway through the sixth book). I flew through the first ones, but once school started, it took me almost 4 months to finish the last one.

Typically, I read at least 2 or 3 books a month. I knew that when school started my reading would slow down because I’d be busy, but I never expected it to take so long to finish one book!! The series was about time travel, love, lost love, family, and a whole lot of history, including good old North Carolina back in the late 1700’s. Like I said, I loved the books. Just tedious. Definitely not a book you can pick up and put down after a few minutes. I think the reason it took so long to read was because I wouldn’t pick it up unless I had at least half an hour to read, but that was so rare that I didn’t pick it up much.

So, now I am reading Marley and Me. Which, I have to admit, I am flying through. I think I was reading the Outlander books for so long that I forgot how tedious the writing was. Kind of like how it takes longer to read really old classics because the writing style is so different. It doesn’t mean it isn’t a great book, just that it takes a bit longer to read. And with that said, I am off to read Smile
