The Abbey by Chris Culver

This book is the debut novel for the author, and I think it is also self-published, so it’s important to keep that in mind when reading it. As a grammar nerd, I am pleased to report that I only found one minuscule error in the whole book.

That said, it’s an easy and shallow read (and I don’t mean that in a bad way). It skips along the surface and while it rarely delves underneath, it’s a pleasant ride. The characters aren’t very well developed and there are a lot of ideas that are introduced but not followed up on (vampires, for example), but the overall effect is that it is a great weekend read. While I’ve only read one James Patterson novel, it reminds me of what I understand his books to be: quick and exciting. I’m looking forward to reading his next book and seeing where this author ends up.
